Prepare your documents for ESEF

It’s crucial to use the proper settings in InDesign and CtrlPrint to be able to create a nice looking and approved ESEF report.

Q: How will I know if I have hidden facts in the tagged report?

Q: I know from previous experience that you had problems with certain fonts. Are there specific fonts that you do not recommend?
A: There are no specific fonts that are known to cause issues. You need to test your fonts to see if it works.

Q: What if the numbers are within a block tag. Do you need to consider the hidden facts problem?
A: There are no hidden facts in Block tags.

Q: Is it possible to place diagrams and pictures etc in the text in the notes or should we avoid this now?
A: It’s better to avoid it.

Q: Should you create the ESEF text blocks in InDesign, or can this also be done in InCopy?
A: The text blocks exists already in InDesign. An InDesign user needs to prepare the documents.

Q: Can you apply several tags to one frame in CtrlPrint, or do you then need to make a new layer?
A: You can only apply one tag to a CtrlPrint Frame. After that you need to create a new layer to apply more tags.

Q: What is the difference between ‘CtrlPrint Frames’ and ‘Add a layer’?
A: ‘CtrlPrint Frames’ is a layer that is added automatically. If needed you can add more layers by using ‘Add a layer’.

Q: How do you create frames for a note?
A: Text is always added by using text frames in InDesign. The difference now is that the designer has to create separate text thread for each note, instead of one for all.

Q: So no new text/tables can be added later in the process? The base has to be done before you start, otherwise it will ruin the layout?
A: Preferably you prepare as much as possible before you start tagging. But it is possible to add content later too.

Q: Can we use kerning in the notes block tagging?
A: Yes.

Q: How do we use this frame-function if the chosen element only should be applicable of a specific section or table of the note?
A: Add a new layer and select manually the text before you apply the block tag.

Q: Can body text with block tagging contain hidden characters?
A: There are no hidden facts in block tagging.

Q: Can we have hyperlink in a text that is also block tagged?
A: Yes

Q: If we need to tag the note with multiple tags, do we then need to create different stories in InDesign as well for that note?
A: Tag the whole note by selecting the layer « CtrlPrint Frames ». Then you add a new layer and select the content manually and block tag.

Q: How does it work when you create and interactive PDF till XHTML? Is it problem-free or is there something specific to think about?
A: We recommend that you create an interactive PDF in post production.

Q: How do you work with the exclude function? for example if necessary in order to exclude info about the parent company?
A: If you need to exclude a section of a note from a tag, you can do so by tagging manually around it or by building the document in InDesign so that the section you want to exclude is not part of the text-thread.
